Did you know that before he became a famous television icon that Regis Philbin had a nightclub act? The Regis Philbin Christmas might help explain why he has succeeded in the TV branch of show business. With a little help from big bandleader Steve Tyrell on 'Marshmallow World,' his wife, Joy, and the (ubiquitous and annoying) Donald on 'Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer' (of course Rudy gets hired, not fired), Philbin floats through 12 songs that are generally given a lush production sound. But there aren't enough charts or strings in all of five boroughs of Manhattan to mask that cheeky Bronx accent or Philbin's apprentice vocal chops. Somebody throw RP a lifeline.
